OpenWrt 22.03 is currently shipping a version that was released back in August 2022, can i change some "mirror" on the opkg config to get the latest version from the master branch on GitHub or do i really need to build my own image?

https://github.com/openwrt/packages/pull/16776 says the issue was fixed. However it mentions that it’s using hotplug and if yours isn’t the router in question then a hotplug event won’t be generated.

There's some good pointers here, but I admit it's a bit advanced, as I said Openwrt's implementation is meant to be made more accessible (it'll get better in time) but this is one of those cool gadget programs that has so many knobs and buttons to play with that it is inherently a bit fullon lol

It depends upon what packages you use. Some aren't ready for it, banip being a very notable one.

It works on minimal hardware. I am running it on an Orange Pi 3 LTS.

You can try using a DNS/DHCP server other than the Windows one, e.g. Technitium I use this on Linux but as it is written in Dotnet it will of course also work on Windows https://technitium.com/dns/

I recently made an effort to harden my network due to (technically) exposing more of it with FireZone (WireGuard). For the curious, I shared some details in a recent comment. I didn't mention it in the comment, but I also set up local DNS (Technitium) with block lists.

Thanks for asking. There is already a feature request on Github for it. It is not planned to be implemented for now since there are some core features that are prioritized to be implemented. But it should come later once the planned features are implemented.
