You should be able to find some WP plugin that offers OAuth/OIDC/SSO server functionality, like this miniorange oauth 2.0 server. On the Nuxt side, you can use sidebase's nuxt-auth.

Strangely enough, it seemed liked sidebase/nuxt-auth OR nuxt server routes in general were not able to resolve environment variables. They released a new version yesterday. The title of the issue said "Using nuxt-auth with server routes". So maybe this solves our problem...

The evolution of nuxt-auth: there's nuxt/auth (Nuxt 2), an alternative module to try to bridge the gap for Nuxt 3 (and another one), and suddenly, sidebase/nuxt-auth popped up, which seems to wrap next-auth. I don't know if that's the proposed official solution going forward, reuse don't reinvent, or just a stop-gap measure (will the rug get pulled again?)

NextAuth.js is not perfect. One of the shortcomings is that it currently does not implement federated logout. This means that even if a user signs out of the Next.js app, he does NOT get signed out of the Cognito user pool client. As a consequence, the user is not really being logged out (i.e he is able to login again without providing the credentials). You can read more about this problem in this Github thread.

Authentication is a fundamental part of most web applications. Integrating authentication into your Next.js app can be simplified with NextAuth, a powerful authentication library that supports various authentication methods. However, the documentation around setting up NextAuth with the "Credentials" auth provider might not be as clear as you'd hope.
