ntopng-udm VS udm-kernel

My friend just did ntopng on his with this script.https://github.com/tusc/ntopng-udm

I read about https://github.com/tusc/ntopng-udm but needing to do that and having to have another webpage up to see the kind of information I want ( not even sure if this is "real-time" ) is not a great solution.

You can view the DPI stats in the controller which no one has ever trusted. You can also use some 3rd party tools like iftop of ntopng to track bandwidth use. Full disclosure, I ported ntopng to the UDM: https://github.com/tusc/ntopng-udm

If you want something much better, do yourself a favour and install ntopng on your UDM. It records much more information than DPI like time-series data, supports IPv6, and is much more accurate at classifying traffic. You can read all the features ntop supports here.

You should look into setting up Ntopng. Wayyyy better monitoring and can track individual usage by IP, devices, etc. You set it up directly on the UDM or UDMP so no additional hardware. Arguably smart queues or preferably cake ack-filter on just the outbound 40mbit on the udm pro will be a mite better than PIE in many scenarios but that would take benchmarking. cake for the udm pro is available here: https://github.com/fabianishere/udm-kernel

This is not the most serious deficiency, but perhaps a more robust solution is possible. It has recently become possible to swap out the kernel of a UDM to a custom kernel which permits us to enable igmpproxy. The developer also provides instructions on how to get a multicast relay working, but I've been unable to successfully apply them to allow discovery of a Chromecast Ultra from the other site. Has anyone been able to get something like that to work, or otherwise to get multicast over VPN working using some other method?

Someone recently did this with the UDMP/UXGP and has built a kernel with WireGuard. It is feasible that Cake could also be added this way. https://github.com/fabianishere/udm-kernel
