mpv-youtube-quality VS youtube-dl

Every other script has dropped in and works instantly other than this one, no matter what I do the menu never loadsm or gives any indication of loading. The old, outdated youtube quality script loads, but presumably because of changes to youtube it fails fetching the list of formats. The menu does still show up.

acompressor.lua: compressor. blur-edges.lua: fills the black bars on the side of a video with a blurred copy of its edges. createchapter.lua: self-explanatory. crop.lua: crop video in a visual manner. encode.lua: make an extract of the video currently playing using ffmpeg. reload.lua: reloads videos if an online video stops caching. seek-to.lua: go to timestamp. simplehistory.lua: stores whatever you open in a history file. skiptosilence.lua: skip past "previously on...". smartcopypaste_ii.lua: copy/paste links sponsorblock.lua: skip sponsors in yt videos. streamsave.lua: save looped section to a separate file. subit.lua: download subtitles to playing video. uosc.lua: feature-rich minimalist proximity-based ui (my fav!). webm.lua: similar to encode.lua but with more features and no external dependencies. webtorrent-mpv-hook: enable mpv to stream torrents using webtorrent. youtube-quality.lua: change quality of currently playing yt video.

is possible to make "mpv-youtube-quality script"work with other sites

Hello, i got this script (https://github.com/jgreco/mpv-youtube-quality) and it was working with youtube-dl but youtube-dl was buffering a lot so i changed to yt-dlp, yt-dlp doesn't buffer at all but the script to control the quality of the video does not work!

Only way I can think of would be to use a MPV plugin like https://github.com/jgreco/mpv-youtube-quality. Only problem is, I don't think I know how to properly install MPV Plugins in Celluloid, because past attempts have done nothing. I tried using the Preferences dialog to add plugins, I check them, they're technically "installed" as far as Celluloid seems to be concerned, but they do nothing.

Inside the mpv.conf, it reads: "#not needed, only here to overwrite repo installed file which enabled vaapi by default". What does this mean? It is also a read-only file. Why is it "not needed" and why can't I write anything inside it? I wanted to try some scripts like: https://github.com/jgreco/mpv-youtube-quality or https://github.com/TheAMM/mpv_thumbnail_script which need mpv.conf to be modified. Any help? Thank you.

I want to ask if someone can add yt-dl cookies option and also to add format code name to this Script. cuz for premium contents on streaming sites requires a cookie.txt otherwise yt-dl fails to fetching formats so I did want to ask since Im noob if someone else could add this feature to the script.

You might get more consistent results with a fork, most of which have already fixed this issue. Some popular ones are yt-dlp/yt-dlp, blackjack4494/youtube-dlc and animelover1984/youtube-dl. Please note though these might not be drop-in replacements

Months before the lawsuit, there were plenty of people complaining that youtube-dl's maintainers closed issues without any reason given. Here is one illuminating example:

And there is also an entire fork that fixes the support for just a single provider, Niconico, because the maintainers ignored its issues.

A quote from its README:

All code in this project is licensed solely with the condition that any portion of it is not permitted to be used in the main youtube-dl fork, either directly or indirectly. It is also not permitted to be used in any project that contains contributions from either remitamine or dstftw.

It seems that youtube-dl was a dysfunctionally managed project at the time of the lawsuit, and happened to ride out on the good PR for a couple of months, before returning to stagnation once again.

To me it sounds like a plugin system would have prevented centralization and the need for forks, but would have made distribution harder for average users.

Hello. I'm currently trying to download some Niconico videos that will be deleted at the end of this month, using this fork of youtube-dl. However, when I try to run a command, I get this error:

Bilibili doesn't have playlists afaik. Do you mean channels/anthologies? If so, both animelover1984/youtube-dl and yt-dlp can download them
