mpv-youtube-quality VS yt-dlp

Every other script has dropped in and works instantly other than this one, no matter what I do the menu never loadsm or gives any indication of loading. The old, outdated youtube quality script loads, but presumably because of changes to youtube it fails fetching the list of formats. The menu does still show up.

acompressor.lua: compressor. blur-edges.lua: fills the black bars on the side of a video with a blurred copy of its edges. createchapter.lua: self-explanatory. crop.lua: crop video in a visual manner. encode.lua: make an extract of the video currently playing using ffmpeg. reload.lua: reloads videos if an online video stops caching. seek-to.lua: go to timestamp. simplehistory.lua: stores whatever you open in a history file. skiptosilence.lua: skip past "previously on...". smartcopypaste_ii.lua: copy/paste links sponsorblock.lua: skip sponsors in yt videos. streamsave.lua: save looped section to a separate file. subit.lua: download subtitles to playing video. uosc.lua: feature-rich minimalist proximity-based ui (my fav!). webm.lua: similar to encode.lua but with more features and no external dependencies. webtorrent-mpv-hook: enable mpv to stream torrents using webtorrent. youtube-quality.lua: change quality of currently playing yt video.

is possible to make "mpv-youtube-quality script"work with other sites

Hello, i got this script (https://github.com/jgreco/mpv-youtube-quality) and it was working with youtube-dl but youtube-dl was buffering a lot so i changed to yt-dlp, yt-dlp doesn't buffer at all but the script to control the quality of the video does not work!

Only way I can think of would be to use a MPV plugin like https://github.com/jgreco/mpv-youtube-quality. Only problem is, I don't think I know how to properly install MPV Plugins in Celluloid, because past attempts have done nothing. I tried using the Preferences dialog to add plugins, I check them, they're technically "installed" as far as Celluloid seems to be concerned, but they do nothing.

Inside the mpv.conf, it reads: "#not needed, only here to overwrite repo installed file which enabled vaapi by default". What does this mean? It is also a read-only file. Why is it "not needed" and why can't I write anything inside it? I wanted to try some scripts like: https://github.com/jgreco/mpv-youtube-quality or https://github.com/TheAMM/mpv_thumbnail_script which need mpv.conf to be modified. Any help? Thank you.

I want to ask if someone can add yt-dl cookies option and also to add format code name to this Script. cuz for premium contents on streaming sites requires a cookie.txt otherwise yt-dl fails to fetching formats so I did want to ask since Im noob if someone else could add this feature to the script.

It is necessary to establish clear boundaries of what can and can be provided by the maintainers. If not done at an earlier stage of the project, the support burden becomes too much to bear at which point the maintainer transfers ownership, and the project suffers from catastrophic consequences such as the xz backdoor we're talking about here, or other cases where the project mostly stalls and serves as an ego-boosting platform for the new maintainer, as was the case with PhantomJS[6].

This can also happen in your life, where a "friend" sees that you possess a certain skill, and then gradually tries to push an inordinate amount of their personal work related to this field onto you.

Personally, I think it's best to use an approach with extremely clear communication as to what the maintainer can and cannot provide. This can be seen, for example, in yt-dlp[1], where the consumer is clearly informed upfront that not providing detailed information as requested will lead them to block said consumer; or sqlite where their position regarding contributed patches[2] and support[3] is similarly made clear.

Having a shouty BDFL like Torvalds can also help improve code quality[4] and questionable contributions[5], though it is better that the shouty BDFL makes statements that are professional and do not show as much aggression; so for example, "Mauro, shut the fuck up"[7] would become "Mauro, your response is completely unbecoming for a Linux kernel maintainer, and is not in line with the promise of not breaking userspace."
