mj's dev report May-June 2022 (3/3)
Rucknium, J-Bermann and me are breaking down the decoy algorithm in order to better understand its flow by performing statistical tests on it. For this, we need to have an alternative implementation. Python was chosen to be the language, which offers a large variety of frameworks and is widely used among Researchers. My take is being documented here.

UkoeHB submits new CCS proposal to continue working on Seraphis wallet PoC
u/mjxmr has recently started a python implementation of Monero's C++ decoy selection algorithm here. One of its many uses will be to check to see if anything unintended has happened with decoy selection.

While trying to restore old Monero wallet with mnemonic seed, I got new wallet instead of old
If you just misspell one word of 25 the check word won't be right and there should be an error message. Any random set of seed words (with the correct check word) will be a valid wallet address, however accidentally getting a valid check word is unlikely. If you are not using 25 seed words this issue might be relevant: https://github.com/monero-project/monero-gui/issues/1326
