Embedded scripting engine with ability to pause itself (or `yield` halfway)?
Check out miniscript it already has bindings for Lua though uses Luaj under the hood. Implementing a custom script executor would allow for the type of behavior you’re looking for I think.

Found this game today I recommend to try it.
Game name Falling Lightblocks, this one no ads, no forced online just normal play theme without paying anything. I think this games should be known more. I found this one which is quite robust and pretty nice to look at too. Only direct APK download or Play Store, but source is available.
