Help with Minecore USB boot
I am trying to set up Minecore on bootable USB to try and do some Monero mining on an old laptop. I am able to create the USB and boot in to Tinycore but I can't seem to be able to enable persistence once i'm there.

Noob Linux Question
I strongly suggest trying out the system I created exclusively for mining. You can run directly from a USB drive to test. Link: https://github.com/MineCoreLive/minecore

CPU exclusively mining monero, how you stress test?
Basically, you can get a good idea of the performance of each processor (considering having at least 8gb of ram in any scenario to avoid bottlenecks) from the benckmark itself on xmrig.com, and/or by doing a basic search for the processor plus the term "hashrate" on Google. .. But, in order not to lose the habit (lol), I also recommend testing mining with this system: https://github.com/MineCoreLive/minecore (yes, i set it up), from a usb flash drive. Things like hugepages, msr, running as root are already set up. And all in a linux that uses a ridiculously small amount of system resources. It was set up to extract the largest possible hashate from any equipment (only need the processor, memory and internet connection), using MoneroOcean's xmrig and its ability to automatically change the algorithm to the most profitable currency at the moment.

GaryOS
The https://github.com/garybgenett/gary-os#licensing section is interesting.

Is anyone running a desktop/laptop OS in RAM?
Playing around with Porteus, AntiX & Alpine on older and resource restricted hardware and stuff like GaryOS has got me thinking a modern x86_64 or aarch64 system with 64gb ram or more could easily accommodate a desktop system with plenty ram to spare for running. Porteus is ~300mb, AntiX ~5gb and Alpine a little more for an xorg desktop system. Standard install for most Linux systems seems to be below 32gb.

Switching Distro with commands.
GaryOS seems worth a mention, it can rebuild and replace itself which is quite cool.
- Ventoy as a boot manager?
- In theory, could you compile all of the libraries required to run a Linux environment into a single, massive .so file?
-
How would you go on to make your own Linux OS
GaryOS might be worth a look.
What are some alternatives?
