Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

Help with Minecore USB boot
I am trying to set up Minecore on bootable USB to try and do some Monero mining on an old laptop. I am able to create the USB and boot in to Tinycore but I can't seem to be able to enable persistence once i'm there.

Noob Linux Question
I strongly suggest trying out the system I created exclusively for mining. You can run directly from a USB drive to test. Link: https://github.com/MineCoreLive/minecore

CPU exclusively mining monero, how you stress test?
Basically, you can get a good idea of the performance of each processor (considering having at least 8gb of ram in any scenario to avoid bottlenecks) from the benckmark itself on xmrig.com, and/or by doing a basic search for the processor plus the term "hashrate" on Google. .. But, in order not to lose the habit (lol), I also recommend testing mining with this system: https://github.com/MineCoreLive/minecore (yes, i set it up), from a usb flash drive. Things like hugepages, msr, running as root are already set up. And all in a linux that uses a ridiculously small amount of system resources. It was set up to extract the largest possible hashate from any equipment (only need the processor, memory and internet connection), using MoneroOcean's xmrig and its ability to automatically change the algorithm to the most profitable currency at the moment.

The long awaited paper: Sane Design and Scaling For The Future
Anyway there's the gitlab repo. It's meant to be flashed onto a USB stick then booted on any machine. If you use a UEFI system I recommend playing with your CSM legacy boot settings if it doesn't boot right away. This is due to it being partitioned for MBR BIOS and syslinux doesn't have full on UEFI support. The README is both on the repository and the systems /home/addycmos. The README also contains a list of file locations as well.

New at monero mining.
If you plan on only CPU mining I have made a CPU mining Linux distribution for the Monero Ocean community. All you would need is to flash the image to a USB stick, boot it, and run the setup script. There's a README guide that explains how to set up the system. If you would like to use it you can find it on https://gitlab.com/WheezyBackports/AddyCMOS
