In 1.5.x version the bug was fixed for routers wich return false. In previous versions of router false value was traited like 'Route handler was not foud' what was obviously buggy behaviour.

Seeking recommendation for drop in Router for legacy file based PHP app
I've found bramus/router to be pretty convenient for migrating projects. It has middleware support, so it's easier to migrate your authorization/authentication stuff.

I just use a router like Bramus together with a PDO wrapper and my views are just old-school PHP templates (no Twig/Blade/Smarty). For logging check out monolog.
