"the library just knows these rules for each language as part of the standard" sounds great until you try to support a small minority language that the library just doesn't know about and then you're left trying to hack around it by pretending that it's actually a regional variety of another language with similar plural rules.
AFAIK, unlike gettext, MessageFormat doesn't allow you to specify a formula for the plural forms as part of the localization data, so the variant selection logic ended up in the hands of library developers rather than localizers or application developers.
And the standard does get updated occasionally, which can also lead to bugs with localization data written against another version of the standard: https://github.com/cakephp/cakephp/issues/18740

Shlink is a feature-rich self-hosted URL shortener with strong API support and integrations. While it offers great flexibility for developers, it is not organization-focused. Linanok, on the other hand, provides a simpler Laravel-based backend with a better admin dashboard, team-oriented management, and detailed stats tailored for organizational use.

EasyAppointments (https://github.com/alextselegidis/easyappointments) is still FOSS. We managed our team calendars on it at a previous company, but I rolled out Cal.com due to more apparent support and sophistication at my current company. Turns out most of that sophistication turned out to be bloat: we saw successive version releases add features we didn't care about while increasingly putting previously open features, like team calendars, behind a paywall.
This move by Cal.com seems to be transparently an attempt to maintain that paywall against users who'd otherwise just use LLMs to remove it. I guess it's back to EasyAppointments, which still seems to work just fine.
