This is how to backup/export an entire chat transcript, pics, vids, etc. from Signal, archive it outside of signal & be able to review it later on without signal needed, etc.
I wrote sigbak and sigtop to export Signal messages. I believe they are reasonably straightforward to use, and have sufficient documentation. And I, too, welcome suggestions for improvements.

Ideas on how to save/organize memories of conversations with loved ones?
I wrote sigtop to export messages from Signal Desktop, and sigbak to export from Signal Android backups. HTH.

What the hell is with people being too stubborn to use anything but the default messaging app?
If they are not encrypted, I'm curious about the use of sigbak (https://github.com/tbvdm/sigbak).

Can't restore backup invalid passcode? But it's not!
Also, there are third-party tools that can export from Signal backups. You could try one of those tools and see if it can read the backup successfully. I wrote sigbak, but there are others as well.

Getting chat backup as readable file
AFAIK, signal-back is no longer maintained and doesn't work with current backups. You could use sigbak (which I wrote) to export your conversations to plain text.

Restoring one Single Chat from foreign Backup
You could use sigbak (which I wrote) to export your conversation from a backup to a text file. If you need help, feel free to let me know.

Export (not backup) Signal conservations
I've begun writing sigbak shortly after backups were introduced in Signal and kept it up to date ever since.

Anyone familiar with sigbak know if you can export in csv format?
I am trying to export my chats in plaintext from android version of signal. This very useful tool (thank you to the author) works but exports all chats in a textfile in a format that I can't organize by contact/phone number. So I would like to get it as a csv/spreadsheet compatible format so I can do searches and isolate just one contact by their number. https://github.com/tbvdm/sigbak

Export Chats
I have written a utility to export conversations from Signal Android backups. Maybe it's useful to you.
What are some alternatives?
When comparing signal-backup and sigbak you can also consider the following projects:
signal-export - Export your Signal chats to markdown files with attachments
signal2html - Export a Signal backup to pretty HTML
signal_for_android_decryption - An (unofficial) tool which decrypts backup files produced by the Signal Android app.
sigtop - Export messages from Signal Desktop
signal-back - Decrypt Signal encrypted backups outside the app
signal-backup-decode - Decode Signal Backups
signal-message-exporter - Export SMS, MMS, and Signal messages out of Signal
signalbackup-tools - Tool to work with Signal Backup files.
