The number of mentions indicates the total number of mentions that we've tracked plus the number of user suggested alternatives.
Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

Thumbnail previews (for chapters of mkv files) in Plex app on TV missing
Thumbnail preview is not implemented in Matroska, but there is a ticket.

In-depth understanding of the mkv format (aka: where is the difference?)
That being said, 0xbf is not a valid Matroska element ID according to the current Matroska specs (there would have to be an XML element with an id="0xbf" attribute in the linked specs file).

Linking video/audio/subtitle tracks
Personally I don't care about this type of feature. I'm not motivated to spend my time going through the whole process. If no one else is either, including the people who actually do care about it, it will not happen. Note that you (the general you, not you-the-person in particular) don't have to be a coder at all in order to participate in the more important part of the whole process, the specs work. You could start that work today, describe what your use cases are on the CELLAR's Matroska specs issue tracker, come up with ideas how to implement it from the format's perspective (again, no coding required here).

Pair audio track with subtitle track
Such an option is possible and there is a PR.

How to get rid of ASS track name?
Huh… interesting.und is about the track language, though. There might be a bug in the code deriving track languages from file names, and I'd like to look into it some more. Can you please upload one such ASS file along with your MKVToolNix GUI preferences file to my file server? That'd be a big help. Thanks!

video length changes after cut and concatenate
Is it just slightly off? Looks like mkvtoolnix will only cut at key frames. https://gitlab.com/mbunkus/mkvtoolnix/-/issues/1088 Without more info, my first guess is that it's rounding to the nearest key frames in the source material, slight altering duration.

Is it possible to remove audio streams and subtitles in bulk using the CLI?
In my FAQ there's an entry on automation containing several examples, some in bash, some in Ruby.
- Audio track way too long; how to fix?
-
Occasionally for mkvmerge, for very short durations (say 5 secs or less), VIDEO-only + silent-only AUDIO, resulting MKV has no audio track.
Interesting; that sounds like a bug. Can you please open a new issue over on Gitlab for it & upload one such audio file (only the m4a you "extracted") to my file server, please? I'd like to take a look at it, but without an entry in the issue tracker chances are I'll forget about it again. Thanks.
