Should I stay with Foundry?
I guess I'm always surprised when I don't see MapTool mentioned. It's multiplatform, 100% open source and the Takehara framework includes just about all of 5e. No doubt there is some learning curve but you can do everything with it that any other platform does. https://www.rptools.net/toolbox/maptool/. https://github.com/rtakehara/5e-Framework/

Maptools tutorials?
I use Takehara's DnD 5e framework which can be found Here and has a section in the discord "dnd5e-takehara" channel under Frameworks. It works a little differently than the one Arcadum uses but it's way more user friendly. You can add onto it with custom stuff as you learn and it has tons of tutorials that you can find on the Github page I linked.
What are some alternatives?
TokenTool - TokenTool removes much of the tedium from creating tokens for use with MapTool or your favorite online gaming application. Just drag an image into the background, select a frame, zoom and pan to suit, and drag off a finished token. The resulting token is transparent around the edges and cropped to the size you wanted.
