Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

Show HN: I built a transit travel time map
Reminds of me a site I used when house hunting:https://www.mapnificent.net/
- Mietmarkt in Berlin - was tun?
- I developed an algorithm capable of finding all the areas that a suspect could reach during a crime in a specified time frame, taking into account time and mode of transportation constraints

How far can you go by train in 5h?
Sadly this site doesn't seem to be maintained still, there's lots of contributions that aren't getting merged. https://github.com/mapnificent/mapnificent_cities

Which coding language might be helpful for me to self-study as an undergrad in planning?
Other Languages - Languages like C++, Java, Rust, Go, and others are used to build planning tools, games, or sims. Examples include Conveyals Analysis tools or A/B Street. In transportation + environmental planning I have seen more applications of these languages than other sectors, but it is often by actual software developers rather than planners (or highly specialized planners). Often libraries such as Numpy, Pandas, or similar have their actual operations written in C++ for example to provide speed that comes from using lower level languages.

Noob request: help optimize my text processing code
Ah, they're the output of specialized software to calculate point-to-point travel times by routing along a street network. The input CSVs are large because of routing from many origins to many destinations, usually all US census blocks to all nearby census blocks.
What are some alternatives?
GTFS-GO - QGIS-Plugin to parse GTFS data, to show and aggregate routes and stops.
gtfs-to-geojson - Generate geoJSON of transit route data from a GTFS file.
motis - Intermodal Mobility Information System
Timetable-App - This is a timetable App for android phones.
awesome-transit - Community list of transit APIs, apps, datasets, research, and software :bus::star2::train::star2::steam_locomotive:
osmnx-examples - Gallery of OSMnx tutorials, usage examples, and feature demonstations.
feasible-route-mapping - Algorithm capable of finding all the areas that a person could have reached while en route between locations in a defined period, taking into account time and mode of transportation constraints.
analysis-ui - Front-end for Conveyal Analysis. Model and analyze transport scenarios.
abstreet - Transportation planning and traffic simulation software for creating cities friendlier to walking, biking, and public transit
time2reach - Public-transit travel time map
