Retrieve custom fields on addresses in controller.
That tutorial suggests using Extension Attributes to store the fields' data, however it seems that Extension Attributes are not supported in the open source version of Magento. Thus, I'd like to read that data back in the controller and store it.

Guys, have you noticed that Safari's date-picker is giving us a real headache? I mean, it's responsible for a whopping 33% of our customer support problems! Can we do something about this, or are we just gonna keep dealing with angry customers who can't figure out how to select a date on Safari?
