Then this library helped me, although it's not a complete solution, because it's just a wrapper that allows you to execute shell commands from lua, but it doesn't replace them with anything new, so it still feels as usual bash-scripting, but with lua syntax.

How can I get a list of directories without lfs?
I doubt the Nintendo Switch allows you to navigate directories. This means missing the os and io libraries in exchange to be built. In the offchance it does, you can use os.exec to launch a program and analyze its output. I doubt the switch has a binary to do just that ready. You can implement this in a dynamically loaded library - in which a binary has a native symbol that Lua can access.
