What are best tools for ground up bitcoin/lightning node?
I like RTL, services like loopd for channel rebalancing or if you're so inclined, the whole lightning terminal package. I love jochen's mempool explorer (source code) when estimating fees. I use blockstream's block explorer esplora (source) for my block explorer. There's so many fun tools out there I can't even come close to naming them all.

My reply to people who tell me to “just use lightning”
No, you can also loop it out (https://github.com/lightninglabs/loop). It can use batched transactions to save on fees.

Can I add Sats to an open channel?
You can use loop in to refill channel with onchain funds. https://github.com/lightninglabs/loop#loop-in-swaps
-
How to withdraw LN sats to onchain without hurting my channels?
You would have more details on why it failed in loopd debug logs. If you have access to cli, you can try using command check github docs for command options. https://github.com/lightninglabs/loop#loop-out-swaps

Lightning network channels are starting to become impossible to open/close/route payments due to double digit fees.
You don't have to close or open a channel to get funds in or out of the lightning network. https://github.com/lightninglabs/loop

My own scripts to run LND in my home lab using Ansible
Very nice! To get the Lightning Labs add-on services going, you might consider using Lightning Terminal because it bundles all 3 (loopd, poold, faraday) in addition to the Terminal UI: https://github.com/lightninglabs/lightning-terminal
