Left on Read is an open-source iMessage analyzer for Mac Desktop that I helped build. Learn your top words, emojis, group chats, contacts, and relive your funniest messages. The app is free to try, but in order to keep the lights on, we charge $2.99/month for premium features (such as filtering and sentiment analysis charts).

Left on Read works by copying the chat.db sqlite file on your Mac found at ~/Library/Messages. This is why we need request full disk access. We then run queries on it and display graphs with react chart.js.

We've happily seen a lot of people entertained by our app thanks to some viral Reddit and Tik Tok posts that we've done.

The short answer: the electron app itself took about 1.5 months with two people working on it full-time to get to a “minimum awesome product” state. Our Github contribution graph would probably tell the most accurate story.

Ah, so I filter out traditional stop words - all the code for this is open-source and can be downloaded as a Desktop app found here.

To visualize this data, I used my own app, Left on Read. My friend and I ended up reworking the original web-based platform into an open-sourced desktop app that runs offline - security & privacy first! You can check out the code here on Github

I’m fairly new to electron and so this may actually be totally irrelevant to your issue, but I found this template for electron + typescript + react and it’s been a godsend for me. Still uses forge as well so I don’t have to worry about future support or anything. Highly recommend if only to check out the configs
