Compile OpenWRT for x86 target with 6.2+ kernel?
You can try the Chinese build Lean: https://github.com/coolsnowwolf/lede/tree/master/target/linux/x86 it has 6.x kernels but please note that default packages are not the same as the main openwrt packages, they are most of the time older packages. In short they have different packages (b default).

I do everything through a web browser -- I run an Arch VM with a modified version of ttyd running as a systemd service.

There are programs like gotty that can show terminal output in a webpage. Some alternatives, https://alternativeto.net/software/gotty/ Like ttyd looks promising as well.
