Layr.js is trying to take on something in this middle space. It basically hides either end from you and is still hard to reason about. Only mongodb is supported now. And yes I much prefer the option of having many community made packages over one supported way.

Some Thoughts on React Server Components
This approach appeals to me because it is in line with one of my biggest obsessions. Indeed, with Layr I'm trying to achieve the same thing — to bring the frontend and the backend together.

Good Bye Web APIs
With Layr, the frontend and the backend are physically separated (they run in different environments) but logically reunited (it's as if they were in the same environment).
