A way to determine unloaded font?
Install the Last Resort font. It will show the code point of any symbols not covered by any other font.

Does anyone know what the symbol in the middle of the box is called and/or where it comes from? I can't find it on any unicode charts, but I figured this would be the best place to ask
This image is from Last Resort font, maintained by Apple, Michael Everson, and Unicode. This font's purpose is to provide a helpful fallback glyph for each Unicode block so that users can see which script's font is missing from the system.

Are there any good all around packages for fonts on linux?
Another font that may be worth installing is Last Resort. This font replaces the tofu characters with symbols that specify the missing Unicode range.

Comic Mono
Actually looks quite nice, but when I try it for coding I find it a bit too dense, compared to Hack [0] which gets it just about right for me.

What font config do you use on emacs?
Haven't seen any love for Hack yet. Here's my setup, which is also using noto sans for the variable pitch font.
