System76 Virgo Aims to Be the Quietest yet Most Performant Linux Laptop
This is very exciting. After Dell and HP dropped out over the past year, I've been waiting for a company other than Lenovo to build a well-designed laptop with a pointing stick. I'm glad that System76 is taking the community laptop suggestions to heart (implementing a Thinkpad-style TrackPoint is the top suggestion by number of thumbs up: https://github.com/system76/laptop-suggestions/issues/25).

System76 Teases Their “Virgo” In-House Manufactured Laptop
System76 is still collecting laptop design suggestions here:
https://github.com/system76/laptop-suggestions
The most popular suggestion (by number of upvotes) is to add a TrackPoint style pointer:

I hope they deliver.

Oryx Pro users: have you used external monitors without the dedicated GPU on Oryx Pro?
I'm planning on buying an Oryx Pro, so I decided to go through system76's GH to see if anyone had posted any issues about the model. I recently noticed that there's a very old issue open on System76's repo for laptop suggestions (here: https://github.com/system76/laptop-suggestions/issues/139).

Is System76 planning a fanless ultrabook similar to Macbook Air?
Add your support to open suggestions (issues) here: https://github.com/system76/laptop-suggestions. S76 doesn't design any laptops themselves currently, but this is their way of gathering feedback on what we're interested in for whenever they do.

hardware kill switch microphone
A browse around the internet generally leads to purism and framework, but these are well designed manufacturer's solutions and I am looking for some good old DIY experiments. Several searches yielded no results, and according to https://github.com/system76/laptop-suggestions this is a much desired feature.

Why would someone buy a Linux laptop (System76/Slimbook/Tuxedo) instead of a same price Thinkpad?
S76 does not design their current laptop inventory but they are collecting feedback for when they do. Share your feedback: https://github.com/system76/laptop-suggestions

System76 "in house laptop". Anyone else waiting?
No time immediately. S76 design and manufacturing has only just got to a mechanical keyboard. Less significant than that is the thelio chassis and I/O board. They seem to be taking this seriously and building up their capabilities. You can track and provide suggestions for their laptops here though: https://github.com/system76/laptop-suggestions

Can I install this as a VM into Virtual Box? +
You're not really going to ever simply forget what OS you're on, if you are going for the mac look and feel. In my opinion you should be looking at https://ubuntubudgie.org and install my http://kinto.sh app, the global menu is easy to activate in Budgie. If you also really want imessage then you can also take a look at https://airmessage.org and setup a VM on another box if you need to - but you will need to gather some genuine mac values https://github.com/myspaghetti/macos-virtualbox.

System76 Developing “Cosmic” Desktop Environment
First off.. this is not an official release like my Kinto project, but you can install https://ubuntubudgie.org and use their global menu or run my script which will fully configure everyone w/ my Kinto project and other various fixes.

After a long time lurking on this subreddit I've decided to create my own pygame-based game. After several hours this is what I have. I am particularly keen to hear what other people think of the visual style as I am doing all the art work myself (including the animations). So, what do think?
Ah yes. I love Manjaro, I ran it on and off for a few yearas. I had to switch distros recently because of the many sub-versions of java and package management unfortunately. So I moved to Ubuntu Budgie. https://ubuntubudgie.org/

The second fan of the R9 380 is not working.
To clarify you mean Ubuntu Budgie right?

Other guy misspelled it, so here's a link.

Installing linux for the first time, anything i should know?
TIL Ubuntu Budgie is a thing.

Do you also think that currently desktop Linux experience is discouraging?
Linux often times lack polish and to me.. it is surprising how put together it can actually feel once you have both polish and functionality combined and that is the difficult part that you will rarely see. Try out ubuntubudgie.org and configure it to look like a Mac, if you are developer that uses a mac, and I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Unlike in past years there is a distro out there that has every component you need baked in besides xfce4-terminal, which to me is better than Tilix, and simpler looking.
