Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

Continuous Learning in Kubernetes: My Voyage of Discovery
As I delved into the world of Kubernetes, I opted for what seemed like the scenic route—until reality hit. With determination and a sprinkle of naivety, I plunged into crafting a Kubernetes cluster from scratch. Little did I know, I was in for a wild ride of commands, configurations, and complexities. But fear not! With the guiding light of a course based on the notorious "Kubernetes The Hard Way" GitHub repository, albeit customized for AWS instead of Google Cloud, I embarked on my journey to build my digital fortress, one step at a time.

Upgrading Hundreds of Kubernetes Clusters
Another resource that I found pretty helpful was "Kubernetes the Hard Way" by Kelsey Hightower despite its complexity.

Kubernetes the Harder Way, on a local Mac or Linux
I recently published Kubernetes the Harder Way, a guide loosely based on Kelsey Hightower's Kubernetes the Hard Way, but lenghtier, more explanatory, broader in scope, and - most importantly - harder, by targeting a local machine instead of Google Cloud Platform.

Ask HN: Is there a low cost way to learn real K8s, after exhausting minikube?
How about this? It will setup a kubernetes cluster on GCP with 3 worker nodes?
https://github.com/kelseyhightower/kubernetes-the-hard-way
Some costs here but click on the google cloud calc as it seems to have gone up since he wrote this:
- Has anyone ever tried to learn how k8s works?
- Anyone has experience with windows k8 ?
-
Ask HN: How to Learn Kubernetes
If you wanna go all in: https://github.com/kelseyhightower/kubernetes-the-hard-way
Oh, and both: "Kubernetes up and Running" and "Production Kubernetes" are great books.
-
Someone got some links of K8s hands-on lab for beginner to intermediate ?
Using Kubernetes The Hard Way is a great way to learn it deeply and quickly.

Fastest way to set up an k8s environment ?
If you wanna learn it deeply and quickly, Kelsey Hightower's Kubernetes the hard way is fantastic!

KubeVirt v1.0 has landed! This release demonstrates the accomplishments of the community and user adoption over the years
The full list of changes can be found in the Release notes. There are performance and scalability benchmarks published for the v1.0 release.

Proxmox, CEPH and kubernetes
If you're happy with k8s and longhorn, why add Proxmox as another layer underneath? Consider kubevirt ?

Kubernetes for temporary VM?
Have you looked at http://kubevirt.io/ ?

How does your company roll out code?
If the answer to "how do you run VMs" is "Kubernetes does it" then its about https://kubevirt.io/

We are even using Docker Hub to store and distribute VM images...

Blog: KWOK: Kubernetes WithOut Kubelet
Docker Desktop runs dockerd in a Linux VM with Apple's hypervisor framework. You can also run containers in a Linux VM with Parallels or VMware Fusion hypervisors. But you can't run VMs inside those VMs as it stands today. This works fine on Intel Macs which means you can't experiment and use KVM - one of the killer features of Linux and things like https://kubevirt.io/
-
Docker + portainer vs k8. EILI5
Proxmox VE can run VMs and LXC containers (see my comment below on LXC). Kubernetes can run OCI containers, but there's also KubeVirt for running VMs.
-
Live Switching Pods to another Node on Resource Limits
Another option would be something like KubeVirt but that is a different use case where you are actually running a VM in a container for hard-to-containerize workloads.
What are some alternatives?
kubeadm - Aggregator for issues filed against kubeadm
harvester - Open source hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) software
k3d - Little helper to run CNCF's k3s in Docker
firecracker-containerd - firecracker-containerd enables containerd to manage containers as Firecracker microVMs
kubespray - Deploy a Production Ready Kubernetes Cluster
kata-containers - Kata Containers is an open source project and community working to build a standard implementation of lightweight Virtual Machines (VMs) that feel and perform like containers, but provide the workload isolation and security advantages of VMs. https://katacontainers.io/
testssl.sh - Testing TLS/SSL encryption anywhere on any port
k3s - Lightweight Kubernetes
awesome-home-kubernetes - ⚠️ Deprecated: Awesome projects involving running Kubernetes at home
lxd - Powerful system container and virtual machine manager [Moved to: https://github.com/canonical/lxd]
metallb - A network load-balancer implementation for Kubernetes using standard routing protocols
cloud-hypervisor - A Virtual Machine Monitor for modern Cloud workloads. Features include CPU, memory and device hotplug, support for running Windows and Linux guests, device offload with vhost-user and a minimal compact footprint. Written in Rust with a strong focus on security.
