Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.

Historical Expenses Etc Fx
Your perception of how things should work is absolutely correct (sorry I am late to this thread). As none of the existing tools seem to support proper historic valuation, I wrote my own: https://github.com/sboehler/knut

Beancount query market value at different points in time
Personally, I scratched my itch by writing a new tool, which supports valuation at arbitrary commodities as a first-class concept in the engine. Feel free to check out https://github.com/sboehler/knut.

Ask HN: What are some tools / libraries you built yourself?
https://github.com/jhspetersson/fselect
A tiny tool I wrote to search within file piles (mostly unsorted downloads, torrents, and such). I could never remember `find` options, and more advanced queries are a pain. Now one can use some kind of SQL flavor to get the job done.
