My favorite overlay is Ember Overlay. Their instructions are fairly clear and straightforward. Kagerou is another simple yet customizable option. The Ember link has instructions for every step of installing ACT to adding the FFXIV Plugin and enabling the overlay.
Last night FF gave me an experience I've not had in WoW in a long time...

I figured it out. Got vJoy installed and added 1 device with an X/Y joystick. I installed UCR from here and configured it like so. Buttery smooth movement all around.

I would suggest looking a UCR https://github.com/evilC/UCR Should allow you maps button to virtual gamepad/keyboard press etc. I assume you can press enter on keyboard to select the VR title
