Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

There was "itsalltext"[1] (sadly defunct) - but there's an alternative (i just discovered - so I've yet to try it) : ghosttext https://github.com/fregante/GhostText

Vimium - Vim extension for your browser
I used to use the itsalltext extension that did exactly that, but sadly it's not compatible with newer versions of Firefox anymore. The readme recommends GhostText which I haven't tried.

Hmm, was it opening with a different file encoding before?
You can `:set editorcmd` to something that gives gVim more commands, like is mentioned in this issue: https://github.com/tridactyl/native_messenger/issues/18
