Reminder: Libgen is also hosted on the IPFS network here, which is decentralized and therefore much harder to take down
As Libgen is an ever-expanding collection wouldn't something like IPFS Cluster fit this a lot better?

Fast way to sync ipfs datastores across computers?
There's also IPFS-cluster if you're into those features.
-
Has anyone successfully migrated their content off pinata and onto a self hosted ipfs server?
Then from there, it should be however connectable your server is. If you run multiple, there's ipfs-cluster as an option to sync them. Most of the time I simply send a CID list over ssh.

How do I "USE" IPFS Cluster?
The cluster as in https://cluster.ipfs.io/ would control the pinning of data. afaik the control would be private, like what it pins. The docs have a space for a key which I assume controls it.

Help Preserve the Internet with Archiveteam's Warrior
AFAIK you can use IPFS (& clusters[0]) without relying on the crypto parts of that ecosystem. That ought to fit rather well with the use case.

Storing Off-Chain data using NFT.Storage
Notably, NFT.Storage includes both long-term "cold storage" in the decentralized Filecoin network, as well as "hot storage" using IPFS Cluster.

BTFS (BitTorrent Filesystem)
This project still seems alive to my pleasant surprise.
https://github.com/automatic-ripping-machine/automatic-rippi...
I never had it fully working because the last time I tried, I was too focused on using VMs or Docker and not just dedicating a small, older computer to it, but I think about it often and may finally just take the time to set up a station to properly rip all the Columbia House CDs I bought when I was a teen and held on to.

Ask HN: What are some unpopular technologies you wish people knew more about?
I really like ARM (automatic ripping machine)
https://github.com/automatic-ripping-machine/automatic-rippi...
Put a DVD/blu ray in a drive and it automatically determines the title, starts ripping, then pops the disc out when it's done.
There's options for post-ripping transcoding also.

It's a pain to get set up initially, but the Automatic Ripping Machine[1] plus Jellyfin/Plex/etc[2] makes for a great combination.

Looking for experiences with Automatic Ripping Machine and a multi-DVD ripping build
I have a lot of DVDs that I would like to rip and then convert into mkv files. Many of these are small productions that aren't likely to be on "Linux ISO" trackers, so "just download them instead!" is not a valid option. I just recently came across posts like this one and this one and even this one here on DataHoarder (which sadly didn't get any responses) and this one from this past week about this awesome GitHub project called Automatic Ripping Machine that is based on this original post from 2016, but I'm happy to see that it has been getting updates even within the last few weeks.
