Is there a brainlet tutorial on how to add basic widgets
You can implement it with lua. Actually is quite easy and can be good step to learn. Or you can use some ready solution from the github, that includes installation manual. For example https://github.com/deficient/battery-widget
- Window manager only

Dumb question
I followed these install directions https://github.com/deficient/battery-widget I pasted it in one part of my rc.lua and it said it expected a closing bracket, so I pasted it somewhere else and it called an exception to s. I understand the closing bracket bit but not much else.

/usr/share/awesome/lib/wibox/widget/base.lua:463: attempt to index local 'layout' (a nil value)
The two widgets it calls on are https://github.com/deficient/battery-widget and https://github.com/deficient/volume-control which are unmodified
What are some alternatives?
