The number of mentions indicates the total number of mentions that we've tracked plus the number of user suggested alternatives.
Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

Stages of a Handshake Name Auction
If you control an ICANN domain which has an associated reserved name on Handshake you don't have to walk trough an auction but can CLAIM this name. Bob Wallet offers an easy way to do this. To see if your domain is eligible for a claim, check the name (left part of the first dot) on a block explorer like hnsnetwork.com To get the whole list his file on Github contains all 90,043 reserved names.

How to setup a DNS resolver that accepts HNS DNSSEC?
Note that the answer is signed by key ID 60944 -- that key is the public-private ZSK in hsd: https://github.com/handshake-org/hsd/blob/master/lib/dns/key.js

How can I make a local DNS Server with PiHole, Handshake dns etc?
Based on https://github.com/handshake-org/hnsd, the name resolution is done via P2P. In theory, this may sound good. However, the normal name resolution via unbound is done via the root name servers. Basically, no blocking (e.g. of warez sites) takes place via these and I think it is extremely unlikely that the requests are logged.

Handshake light client.
hnsd is a secure light client... I don't know what you're asking, that's exactly what hnsd is: https://github.com/handshake-org/hnsd

Each Handshake node depends on other listening full nodes to work
A Handshake full node (hsd) with default settings connects to 8 listening full nodes (outbound) to get blockchain data, but does not allow incoming connections to provide data to other nodes. With a growing Handshake network more listening full nodes are necessary to work properly. Apart from full nodes also tools like Fingertip with a built-in SPV node (hnsd) need listening full nodes to work.

Sci-Hub moves to decentralized, uncensorable DNS alternative. Update your DNS settings!
I just started researching all this hns business thanks to your post, and it appears Pi-hole users should just add hnsd as an upstream resolver.
What are some alternatives?
When comparing hsd and hnsd you can also consider the following projects:
bob-wallet - Bob Wallet is a GUI for DNS Record Management and Name Auctions on Handshake. It includes an integrated full node: hsd
