Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

Ash HN: How can I make my idle CPU time useful to others?
If you don't really understand what you're reading -- I'd recommend not downvoting. Instead, do a bit of research!
Just today, an article was published noting that, if AI becomes a significant proportion of modern productivity, then “When compute becomes the basic unit of labor, a currency to represent future potential compute is needed.”
https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36761430
I personally modelled just such a thing early in the evolution of the Holo project, to see how value-stabilization algorithms might affect a currency denominated in compute, bandwidth and storage:
https://github.com/Holo-Host/holofuel-model
Attempting to account for fraud, attacks, etc. is a significant concern in any system, but especially those involving running arbitrary attacker-controlled code on systems managing valuable resources.
So, by downvoting in ignorance, you are diminishing the value of this platform for those seeking the distilled wisdom it (formerly?) contained.

HOLOFUEL
You’re a little off. All hot can be swapped for Holofuel if that’s what all hodlers choose to do. Holofuels value is directly proportional to the size of the network, not how many Holofuel credits that are in circulation. You should go through this https://github.com/Holo-Host/holofuel-model.

$HOT => HoloFuel Concerns
This says that HoloFuel will be available on the Reserve and on exchanges. It sounds like Holo Host will be able to exchange HoloFuel for crypto (later on possibly even directly to fiat). The Reserve will only accept HoloFuel the host has earned by hosting. The exchanges will also have HoloFuel and allow anybody to trade HoloFuel for crypto or fiat. I'm not sure if they can kill HOT Tokens now that they have been created and are in circulation... it prob is more likely that after the 1:1 swap it just no longer serves a purpose but still exist. The value of it would not be tied to a purpose like a meme coin. I'm not sure if they've made changes since this post but you can read about this here: https://github.com/Holo-Host/holofuel-model
- Seeing lots of posts about 2017 crash again...I've always been downvoted for posting this, but I will continue to try to help people understand currency design and potentially save a lot of money. ASSET-BACKED, VALUE-STABLE CRYPTO is not only possible, it's the future of cryptoCURRENCY
- Response to "Crypto is an Abject Disaster". Yes, But here is a project that should give programmers hope and help you see what future is possible. A completely decentralized internet + asset-backed, value-stable crypto.

Bitcoin Block 840000
The only way I can foresee a cryptocoin actually holding value is if spending the coin meant spending processing cycles and RAM doing things like this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_volunteer_computing_pr...
But in more general sense, less like https://boinc.berkeley.edu/ and more like AWS...
It's the only way to have value, actually holding computing power in a distributed network.

Have you ever donated your computing power with BOINC? Take 5 minutes to fill out the 2023 BOINC Census!
The BOINC Census is back for another year! BOINC is an open source software and network for volunteer computing. People can use it do donate their CPU/GPU power to various scientific research areas like cancer, drug discovery, mapping the galaxy, and more.

Ask HN: What should I do with my leftover bandwidth?
A few years back, I was in a similar situation and found BOINC(https://boinc.berkeley.edu/) to be a great way to contribute. It's a platform that lets you support various scientific research projects by sharing your computational power and bandwidth. However, it's worth noting that BOINC might tends to be more CPU/GPU intensive rather than bandwidth-heavy
- If you have a decent computer, you could contribute to science by installing Boinc. A couple of different projects are researching COVID cures.

Scientific computing on a personal machine vs university resources
Probably BOINC (https://boinc.berkeley.edu/) could be a good solution for you. You can write me a DM, and I could help you to clarify is this something that could help you with your research. By default, to run your computations on BOINC you need to create a server, but we can deal with that and run your research on our own server first, so this could help you to start faster, and then later decide if you need a separate server. And yes - it's totally free.
