Preserving EXIF data
Immich doesn't have built in support for importing Takeout json at the moment. There's a bunch of scripts and guides out there for cleaning up the EXIF data though. I used https://github.com/m1rkwood/google-photos-takeout-scripts myself, but there's dozens more just a google away.

Lost photo dates
I've used this tool with good results https://github.com/m1rkwood/google-photos-takeout-scripts unfortunately it doesn't work for videos, and photos without a date are still messed up (would like a way to set the "date taken" as the "date uploaded to Google" but can't seem to be able to do it).

Want to recover my photos from Google photos without changing the metadata of the photos
Download from Google takeout only. For each photo, takeout downloads 2 files-a json file containing its metadata and the actual file itself. Now to fix this issue we'll make use of both the files using the script given below: https://github.com/TheLastGimbus/GooglePhotosTakeoutHelper Run this script recursively until all your photos have their dates corrected. dm in case u r stuck on any step

iCloud refuses to back up any of my folders from Google Takeout.
So for the past several hours I have been utilizing Google Takeout so that I can upload my photos directly into iCloud, sort of a backup space for my photos. I downloaded the files, extracted them, and then used the Google Photos takeout helper to help sort through everything. everything was done and I was ready for things to begin backing up to iCloud but it now won’t back up anything because it doesn’t support folders and only wants JPEG files.

Any other solutions to transfer Google Photos to iCloud?
Here is a free utility + guide for windows (Edit, it seems there are instructions for Mac too, but you have to use the terminal) , but uploading to iCloud on windows isn’t suggested, doing it in Mac is significantly easier.
