Mail has saved over a thousand draft emails to the wrong folder
The way I eventually solved it was to create a custom script in Go (using the emersion/go-imap library) that could interact with the IMAP server, retrieve all of the emails and then checking the headers and then moving them to the bin. Took about 60 seconds to process 44,000 emails and remove over 1,000 drafts that were in the wrong place.

Yeah, this really need attention now. I'm spotting the go-imap (which seems to be the real culprit) replacement being worked on, which is great! But, u/ProtonMail and u/bartbutler, please push all you can internally.

they seem to blame go-imap (https://github.com/emersion/go-imap). at a quick glance the library itself doesn't seem to have an open issue describing the problem.
curious if that author's (deprecated) protonmail bridge hydroxide (https://github.com/emersion/hydroxide) has the same problem.

Ah the famous [email protected] email addresses we used to use in our test scripts to avoid sending email to anyone by accident. If we need to test the contents of the email then we use Mailhog these days. Can’t recommend it enough.

Preview emails with letter_opener, MailCatcher and MailHog
hey HN, I recently published an article going deep into email previewing (in Ruby on Rails, but I think it's relevant beyond Rails).
MailCatcher (https://github.com/sj26/mailcatcher) and MailHog (https://github.com/mailhog/MailHog) are super handy and easy to run locally. Both spin up an SMTP server which you can direct mail to, and give you a nice web interface to browse mail and preview it.

Docker + email setup
Does it say it's being send on localhost or on production? How is it "saying" it's being sent. We just setup mailhog to test emails for local development.
