OpenPGP Forked into "LibrePGP" by GnuPG's Maintainer Werner Koch
> One camp (Open) wants to move faster and break backward compatibility, the other (Libre) wants to move slower and maintain backwards compatibility
There is no breaking of backward compatibility. The crypto-refresh draft and the LibrePGP draft are equally backward-compatible.
See 'A Critique on “A Critique on the OpenPGP Updates”':
* https://blog.pgpkeys.eu/critique-critique
Both groups would create a new format (Libre = v5; crypto-refresh = v6), and both would support the v4. The Proton folks are choosing to support both v5 and v6:

Updated Proton, Unified Protection
Kudos for taking the baton and maintaining https://github.com/ProtonMail/go-crypto which should replace Keybase's fork everywhere. Terraform and providers such as AWS now use it instead.

Why are Protondrive making their own desktop client rather than utilizing 3rd party tools?
But they already implemented it with their web client and iOS/Android clients. And with GopenPGP they have a golang library for the encryption. If they opened up (aka documented) their API it could be possible for programs like rclone to implement Proton Drive. If they also documented how they expect the GPG encryption and GPG signatures to be done then everything would be good to go for 3rd party devs.

Sounds like ProtonMail‘s gopenpgp might be what you‘re looking for.

Hey Rustaceans! Got an easy question? Ask here (3/2021)!
Hi! Can somebody help me with ring? My goal is super simple: I want to encrypt/decrypt a byte sequence using a password. The problem is that I don't really know the theory. In Go I just used gopenpgp library by ProtonMail. It is really high-level and provides a function with just two parameters: text and password. But there is no such library in Rust, so I decided to use ring.
What are some alternatives?
hydroxide - A third-party, open-source ProtonMail CardDAV, IMAP and SMTP bridge
rust - Empowering everyone to build reliable and efficient software.
go - The Go programming language
dns-message-parser - Rust libary to encode and decode DNS packets
SimpleLogin - The SimpleLogin back-end and web app
Cargo - The Rust package manager
