Luckily there is the awesome tool named clasp that allows you to develop your Apps Script projects locally. That means you can check your code into GitHub source control and use your favorite tools (I use VS-Code) to develop Apps Script scripts. Best of all, it allows you to automate the Apps Script code deployment by using Github Actions.

As addition. You may want to develop in vscode (what I like to do) and use clasp clone / push your code. With types installed you have autocomplete. You can make a .claspignore for you test files and the node_module folder.

Btw, if you don't already know about it, clasp (https://developers.google.com/apps-script/guides/clasp) can be a big help. It lets you develop more like normal (using your favorite IDE, committing to github, etc.) rather than rely on the online GAS editor.
