I couldn't find what you were referring to, but I did note that OpenMPTCRouter is at least partially built upon Glorytun[1] which seems to support failover, so perhaps it is something that OpenMPTCRouter will eventually implement.

Our services uses WireGuard, which should be supported on your UDM with some third party tools, if you wanted to run the VPN client straight on your router. https://github.com/tusc/wireguard Otherwise, you can run the WireGuard VPN

VPN setup?
I see there is some documentation for doing Wireguard on the UDM Pro specifically but didn’t look much into whether it’s geared towards client ir server configs (or both) - found that here but there are a few other resources out there
