Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

People who like/use Git - How much coding do you do?
I recommend reading Practical Git by Johan Abildskov, and practicing with the git katas. You don't need the book to do the katas. You can just follow the suggested learning path listed in the repo. The book is a big help, though.

One of the things he recommends are git katas, which are short exercises that teach you about some aspect of git. You don't need the book in order to do the katas, but the book certainly helps by explaining more in depth what's going on.
