Question about emerge sync / .tmp-unverified-download-quarantine
I already use tmpfs for /var/tmp/portage on my main Gentoo machine. I've had some problems with it for the server in this post, which is 32-bit (I use it to build binaries for my old Core ThinkPad that I can't bear to scrap), I think there's a lack of inodes in 32-bit, but I need to look at it again, I think I can override that. Also just stumbled across this, haven't tried it yet though: https://github.com/nabbi/gentoo-portage-tmpfs

Distribution or Custom Kernel?
However, if you use the same kernel but compiled from source, so gentoo-kernel (not gentoo-sources), then you can use what I prepared for myself: https://github.com/JustArchi/Gentoo
What are some alternatives?
When comparing gentoo-portage-tmpfs and Gentoo you can also consider the following projects:
zram-init - A wrapper script for the zram linux kernel module with zsh and openrc support
torbrowser-overlay - Gentoo overlay for Tor Browser related ebuilds
save-backlight - An OpenRC service for restoring the last brightness level on reboot
gentoo - A couple off files from my gentoo install to make my next gentoo installation just a tad bit easier
