Question on the clarification and recommendations for: Learning resources, regional differences and simulators?
For a sim, I prefer MSF2020 because of the real world scenery. As a VFR pilot, I can fly at my local airport and see the same home depot building where I make my base turn in real life. I have a a high end system (5900X, KP 3090) and use a Reverb G2. You can also hook in Garmin Pilot or Foreflight into either sim and use it as you would in the plane: https://github.com/astenlund/fs2ff/releases/tag/v0.1.13. While the sim helps in some areas can hurt a little in others. I had reinforced some bad habits by sim flying that I'm still trying to break in real flying.

Nothing more terrifying than not seeing the runway until 200ft...
Foreflight is easy to get working. There are a couple options but I use this one because it also shows the sim traffic: https://github.com/astenlund/fs2ff

I sat on the runway at KVNY for an hour, forcing Live Traffic aircraft to go around and then circle endlessly
ForeFlight, connected to FS2020 via https://github.com/astenlund/fs2ff

Is there an add on where you can control or view the flight when you're away from your PC? Such as on a tablet or smartphone?
I use Airmatre connected via FS2FF

Connecting Msfs 2020 To Garmin Pilot
FYI out of all of the apps I tried FS2FF works (https://github.com/astenlund/fs2ff). Strange that it (Garmin Pilot) likes some and not others.

Recommend an app to practice instrument approaches?
You can do that with MSFS 2020 as well you just need to run another app on the side. I use fs2ff

Why does this happen when I try a softer landing?
MSFS also has a built in recorder which is enabled from the experimental settings. But that is tedious to use the last time I tried it. You can also try Sky Dolly. https://github.com/till213/SkyDolly

Reconstruction: FedEx, Southwest Close Call in Austin 4 Feb 2023 using MSFS and Sky Dolly
till213/SkyDolly: Sky Dolly connects with Flight Simulator 2020 and records flight paths and basic instruments for later replay. (github.com)

Nasty landing at Midway (VR passenger view)
I used SkyDolly to record. It works pretty well.
What are some alternatives?
msfs2fltplan - Connects MSFS 2020 to the mobile FltPlan Go app
msfs2020-gopilot - Just another browser-based VFR map for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 (MSFS2020) using Golang
msfs-mod-manager - An external mod manager for the new Microsoft Flight Simulator
yourcontrols - Shared cockpit for Microsoft Flight Simulator.
FalconBMS-Alternative-Launcher - Configure and save FalconBMS setup per Joysticks.
MSFSTouchPortalPlugin - The goal of this repository is to create a connection between Touch Portal and MSFS through SimConnect in order to allow users to create buttons to control or view data for your aircraft. While this is for MSFS, in theory it could be used with other SimConnect compatible games.
msfs2020-map-enhancement - MSFS2020 Map Enhancement
FSJumpStarter2020 - Starts Microsoft Flight Simulator without intros and shows a splash screen.
msfs2020-google-map - Replace MSFS2020's bing map to google map
X-Touch-Mini-FS2020 - Control FS2020 with a Behringer X-Touch Mini
MSFS2020-PilotPathRecorder - Record your flight path with key flight information archived during the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 flights. Then export that data to a KML file to use with Google Earth for 3 dimensional flight analysis
Flight-Tracker-StreamDeck - A Stream Deck plugin to interact with Microsoft Flight Simulation
