E-book reader that does not take lots of RAM and CPU?
Installed Foliate (from deb file https://github.com/johnfactotum/foliate/releases). Nice reader for EPUB, as f now found all features I tried to find: settings for margins, one/two columns, dark theme, zoom with reflow, view as pages vs scrolling. Not registered to open files from file manager after install, but I guess I could add manually.

-
Can someone point me to a good eBook management software?
There's also Foliate, but it's still Linux only. Windows builds are possible (other GTK programs have done it) but still ongoing research.

foliate can't load ebooks after updating webkit2gtk
Thanks for pointing out which package update caused the issue, this could be fixed through next release of webkit2gtk. Keep an eye on https://github.com/johnfactotum/foliate/issues/797

You should try Foliate. I recently found about this after using CoolReader for years and have never looked back.

env::set_current_dir() -- is either not functioning as intended or I'm just messing something up
Indeed, utilities like zoxide which operate primarily as a cd replacement don't attempt to change directories via rust code - they create a shell alias that ultimately invokes a shell builtin to do it.

Everything I Installed on My New Mac
I also still use zoxide for navigating directories. It's a smarter cd command that learns your habits and makes navigating directories a breeze.
