open-source advice and/or help
Agree with the 'Don't overthink it' option! Me and a few others took over an open-source Android Launcher last year and have been learning a lot along the way. My biggest learning is the importance of strong leadership. Lots of people want to casually help, but they need someone to tell them what to do, since they only have an hour here and there.

Open source email pioneer Roundcube joins the Nextcloud family
Unfortunately, I can only second this. The absolute basic functionality, meaning file storage and access through a browser, works fine. However, as soon as it comes to integration, things fall apart, and it's not even terribly complicated stuff. For instance, I used Nextcloud to automatically upload photos from my Android mobile, and this has been completely broken for over 2 months now, and nothing is happening (see https://github.com/nextcloud/android/issues/11974). It's pretty clear they simply do not have enough staff to maintain all of the clients, and I'm just rsyncing my stuff now...

Autoupload feature is still buggy. Looking for alternatives...
However, there are some longer standing issues with uploads that seems to only impact a small subset of people. It's generally blamed on different versions of android handling background processes and permissions differently. There doesn't seem to be one single cause, or one solution, other than what's suggested in that issue.

What to do about Nextlouds missing two way sync?
The corresponding issue on Github has been open since 2016 and even though there are a few hundred dollars bounty exposed, nothing is moving there.
