Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

Best practices for public-facing machines
I'd consider fapolicyd for untrusted guest account systems. It ensures that only applications installed through the package manager can be run, i.e. no downloads of a local exploit and running ./hack on the terminal.

How to use IIO devices?
I'm trying to build a custom image with Yocto for use with the CN0540 from Analog Devices and the DE10-Nano dev board. I have u-boot programming the FPGA, the adi kernel fork compiles, the defconfig is socfpga_adi_defconfig, and the device tree is this one from the adi kernel. I also added libiio to the image for ease of use.

Analog Devices Expands over 1000 Linux Device Drivers to Support Development
I'm not sure what you mean.
All the Linux kernel drivers found on https://github.com/analogdevicesinc/linux or upstreamed at kernel.org are released under the standard Linux kernel license - GPL 2.0. There is no "only for ADI devices" possible - doing so would be a violation of section 6 of the GPL 2 ("You may not impose any further restrictions on the recipients' exercise of the rights granted herein.")
Yes - ADI would encourage anyone to buy their devices - but no - we don't force it - There are many things that are "ADI devices only", but that's normally userspace or HDL or tools, not kernel.
Disclaimer - I work at ADI.
