TheOldNet wifi modem PPP issues
Unfortunately there seems to be very little documentation on the PPP mode of the module you got. So I don't know if there are settings to tune in there. I used Zimodem and 8266 Wifi Modem firmware which I would have suggested maybe trying on your hardware except it looks like they don't have PPP support. There doesn't seem to be another ESP8266-based PPP solution that I can find, although there is this that may let you try SLIP. It's not entirely ideal since you lose the rest of the modem functionality but it might be an interesting test at least. Annoyingly there seems to be PPP support for various 8266 firmwares but only a couple that expose it in remotely friendly ways like TON module does.

Are there any dial up ISPs left in the UK?
WifiModem or Serial Line IP setup. I use the SLIP setup on Amigas - but I have also used it on Linux for fun... its not dialup, but it is the real internet.

finally tried out my simulant retro wifi SI any other funcationality
So perhaps you can consider reflashing your device to use https://github.com/martin-ger/esp_slip_router and then you may be able to get online with a TCP stack running SLIP. My adventures with the TF330 WiFi and being able to get on the internet are described on the AmigaRetro Forum might help step through what you need to do on the amiga side for this (hint it took a little bit of effort to get there and it's very slow going to modern sites but if you wanted to download stuff off your NAS or cruise Aminet its probably okay)

Reasons a Raspberry Pi Belongs in Your Network Lab
> No ESP could practically handle all that
You would be surprised what they can handle... See these examples:

I'm pretty impressed with the performance for the price on these things. over 6000 pixels floating around.
Look at this to see how capable it is: https://github.com/martin-ger/esp32_nat_router
- Wi-Fi repeater
- WiFi station + soft-AP mode. Does this give the esp32 and devices connected to it internet access?

Made an Xbox-controlled sumo robot based on esp32
the esp-32 is a lot more capable then most people think..... see this for example: https://github.com/martin-ger/esp32_nat_router

installing lights on my boat with a dig UNO. how do I make wled make it's own network that will automatically connect to my phone and could I use it thru the wled app instead the web browser?
Just thought of a way, but it's going to cost you another ESP32 controller. Set up a NAT router on a second controller. https://github.com/martin-ger/esp32_nat_router

Is there any library for ESP32 for creating NAT router using esp32
Is there any library for ESP32 for creating NAT router using esp32 I have checked out https://github.com/martin-ger/esp32_nat_router but the issue is cannot use other libraries like GPIO or Shift along with it. I tried upload the basic blink sketch after loading the esp32 Nat router firmware but after that it is not working at all both the blink script and the Nat router.
