Network Route Woes
Best of luck! If you want recommendations for a replacement, I’ve had very good mileage with my ubiquiti u6 lite access points and running the management software on my pi with this docker image to run UniFi network, however if you have an x86 Linux server you can just grab the UniFi Network package directly from UniFi’s website.

I'm stumped. Added a 2nd switch in a daisy chain and Unifi thinks all devices are plugged into the end switch. I've added a graphic if that helps. This is really goofy.
For the sake of FYI, I'm running Unifi-controller on an RPI 4B using docker from: https://github.com/ryansch/docker-unifi-rpi/tree/master/6.2

In need of Wireless AP suggestions
These definitely support VLANs, as well as many other features. They do require an application for management installed on your network, although this application does not have to be left running unless using a captive portal on a guest network. That being said though, there is a GIT hub project that allows you to actually host the controller ON your pfSense firewall. You can find it HERE.

May not be applicable in your case, but I run my controller instance on my pfSense firewall. There is a well support GitHub project for it HERE.

Can "proprietary" APs be used with this OS instead of their management interface ?
For the past couple of weeks I've been using this using the UniFi controller installed by the script from here: https://github.com/unofficial-unifi/unifi-pfsense
