Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

[Addon] My Stars and FreeCamera addon for Godot ✨🎥
1) Stars, which generates some stars based on real data from the HYG database. You can choose between Cartesian coordinates, so that the stars are scattered, or spherical coordinates, where the stars are aligned on a spherical surface. The radius of the sphere can be set.

100k Stars
It might be the hygdata set which can be found here: https://github.com/astronexus/HYG-Database
It currently says it has the "Hipparcos-Yale-Gliese" database, with 119,614 stars and the "Tycho-2/Gaia" subset with 118,971 stars. That seems pretty close to the numbers quoted in the demo.
I used it previously for a matrix math conversion project translating the NIST JAMA library into a Javascript library.
If interested, the test page as a githack link can be found here. Click the "Run 3D Ellipse Fitting on Nearby (100 LY) Stellar Data". My example only uses the 25,000 out to 100 LY.

Astronomy 101 with Hipparchos Data
Hey there, you might wanna look at this: (The most recent and bigger 2.5M star collection comprises of : Augmented Tycho, Hipparcos, Yale, Gliese, but has no spectral information, just mag/absmag) https://github.com/astronexus/HYG-Database/tree/master/hyg

I'd like to share my personal web project. Those who are into astronomy might wanna see this.
I don't use an API here. I have a reference data from github.

3D starmaps
The GAIA dataset has too many errors to be used for that purpose, try HYG instead: https://github.com/astronexus/HYG-Database
- How would you calculate the distance between 2 stars that are NOT the sun? (or at least, obtain the necessary data to do so)
-
Question: How do I find how far away a star is to the sun on the Y-axis. (example: Alpha Centauri is below the sun, but how far below is it?)
This doesn't really answer your question, but https://github.com/astronexus/HYG-Database is a shortcut to get the actual values although I believe these are in equatorial coordinates (ICRF, the International Coordinate Reference Frame), not ecliptic coordinates.

Detecting Kardashev Civiliations
We do try to identify the spectral type of the stars. For example, the HYG database https://www.astronexus.com/hyg has the spectral type for 120,000 stars. If a star is really a Dyson swarm, I wonder if the computer incorrectly classify it as a red giant.

Who can relate?
I know it because I was recently making a game in Unity where I grabbed a csv full of star data here for anyone interested to create a realistic star field (position, magnitude, colour, star names) using real world data and the Unity Particle system.
What are some alternatives?
free-camera - Small addon for Godot that adds a free camera class, useful for all sorts of purposes.

stellarium - Stellarium is a free GPL software which renders realistic skies in real time with OpenGL. It is available for Linux/Unix, Windows and macOS. With Stellarium, you really see what you can see with your eyes, binoculars or a small telescope.
three.js - JavaScript 3D Library.
