dirvish VS elfeed

Finally, there is an awesome (in my opinion) add-on for dired called dirvish - makes dired more 'ranger' like if you're familiar with that. I absolutely love this package and its made dired's awesomeness even more awesome.

why are the separations of my windows so ugly? I get a wide grey divider, when using dirvish, it is even worse (2 separators!!!)

I'm not sure if it's exactly what you want, but to me Dirvish is the best these days. It builds upon dired in a beautiful way

Thanks for the reply, I hadn't seen those last two posts which are nice. Lately I've been using Dirvish for those type of operations. But this isn't exactly what I was looking for. I may not have been totally clear.

The file manager Dirvish. You know how the veterans say that Dired is the best file manager? Well, with dirvish even mere mortals can agree. It has panes, a pretty UI, and even pdf preview through pdf-tools.

He's also the author of elfeed [0] "An Emacs web feeds client". I've found his minimalist implementation very inspiring.

If I come across an arbitrary element I want to ignore/skip, I don't bother looking at the tags. Instead I count element depth until I'm back at the original depth. I don't need to be strict about it since the goal is only to extract useful information from the input. In practice this always works fine. (I've been working in this space for almost 9 years, and I have yet to observe a case where this doesn't approach wouldn't work.)

No, I use Livemarks to get an indication a site provides a feed (i. e. the feed icon) and discover the feed URL without having to search for it in the page source. Then I add that URL to an external feed reader (Elfeed for years now).

I can't believe no-one has mentioned elfeed + elfeed-dashboard makes an awesome RSS reader. I used it to find this post through the reddit RSS post. But I can scan all the RSS things and read through them far more rapidly than visiting each idiosyncratic web page.
