Is there a way to make ubuntu 23.10 think it has a monitor connected when headless?
Or if you are an experienced user of your operating system, you can find solutions on how to create a virtual display without a need for Virtual Display Adapter in the following link: https://github.com/pavlobu/deskreen/discussions/86

Android 14 adds support for using your smartphone as a webcam
Use a vnc client on your android device and setup a virtual monitor on your desktop that is really a vnc server.
I know how to do that with Sway and swayvnc on wayland, as well as with xorg.

This is particularly helpful to people using asahi linux and wanting to connect an external monitor. That can be done with something as simple as a raspberry pi.
EDIT: apparently this project help achieving the same thing on different OS but using webRTC and a browser:

Just wondering if I can run sillytavern or pygmalion(forgot which is which) on my pc and use my phone to connect to it then use tavernAI (the interface) on my phone?
Screen sharing apps are good for this. You can access your pc from your phones browser and local pc IP. https://github.com/pavlobu/deskreen is free one i use.

How can i create a virtual display on X11? [Amd]
No it is not necessary. The screen mirroring and sharing single application window functionality of Deskreen are working without any need for Virtual Display Adapter. The Virtual Display Plug is needed only if you want to extend your computer desktop to have a full secondary screen experience with Deskreen. Ask HN: What lesser-known accessories do you use with your computer?
I use Deskreen with Windows, it has a Linux version that probably works similarly. I think it leverages browser streaming tech.
https://deskreen.com/
Easiest way to get it working is with a dummy plug, but maybe there's more options on Linux to fake a display in software.

Dropping GNOME's X11 session approved for Fedora 41
You can run remote applications with Wayland now: https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterp...
There is also a VNC server for fullscreen sessions (only supports wlroots compositors for now): https://github.com/any1/wayvnc

Is my use case with X.org possible with Wayland?
There's wayvnc.

Asahi Linux To Users: Please Stop Using X.Org
It says on their GitHub page that "Gnome, KDE, and Weston are not supported". What does that mean?
-
What kind of applications are missing from the Linux ecosystem?
I thought this existed in the form of wayvnc but from their README it seems they don't support the popular desktop environments (GNOME, KDE).

What are my options for remote desktop software on wayland?
Not sure if I would call it hassle free, but wayvnc isn't that hard to set up.

Can I run Sway via remote desktop on a Linode server running arch?
There is however a fresh issue on the wayvnc github with what looks like your problem. https://github.com/any1/wayvnc/issues/206

Use a laptop as a 2nd display on Linux using FreeRDP
On wayvnc git master and sway 1.8 (or git master), you can script things so that a "virtual" display gets created automatically when someone connects to VNC, and removed when they disconnect.
See https://github.com/any1/wayvnc/pull/200/files
The script in the PR does something a bit different, but it's only an example and can be modified to do what I described in the first paragraph.

Intel is using DXVK for their Windows Arc GPU DX9 drivers
No - it's not X, it's doesn't share a screen in the way X does.
That said... if this is a shoddy attempt at a "gotcha" style question - Screen sharing and remote desktop are both supported.
Ex - for Gnome:
https://wiki.gnome.org/Projects/Mutter/RemoteDesktop
LibVNCServer for VNC support, FreeRDP for remote desktop protocol.
For KDE:
https://userbase.kde.org/Krfb
Which mostly just works as long as you have Pipewire and xdg-desktop-portal-kde installed (the base plasma-wayland session usually includes them)
This one is a bit less polished - some users still have problems with keyboard input, depending on the distro and other installed packages.
For Sway:
xdg-desktop-portal-wlr works just fine for screen sharing, and you can use https://github.com/any1/wayvnc for VNC access (including having a completely headless machine).

Linux experts, how to start TigerVNC automatically when switching to desktop?
Ah right, looks like the VNC server you're using is xorg only. You can try WayVNC for gaming mode https://github.com/any1/wayvnc .
What are some alternatives?
VirtScreen - Make your iPad/tablet/computer into a secondary monitor on Linux.
x11vnc - a VNC server for real X displays
Weylus - Use your tablet as graphic tablet/touch screen on your computer.
sway - i3-compatible Wayland compositor
scrcpy - Display and control your Android device
kanshi - Dynamic display configuration (mirror)
BetterDummy - Unlock your displays on your Mac! Smooth scaling, HiDPI unlock, XDR/HDR extra brightness upscale, DDC, brightness and dimming, dummy displays, PIP and lots more! [Moved to: https://github.com/waydabber/BetterDisplay]
FreeRDP - FreeRDP is a free remote desktop protocol library and clients
virtual-display-linux - Create virtual display / monitor on linux OS for extended display via teamviewer or vnc server without any real Monitor is Plugged In.
noVNC - VNC client web application
barrier - Open-source KVM software
xdg-desktop-portal-wlr - xdg-desktop-portal backend for wlroots
