Why is Japanese web design different to the rest of the world?
As someone who enjoys and prefers high-density of information, I agree.
However, I do wish HN would add support for @media (prefers-color-scheme: dark). By now it's one of the few sites that are unpleasantly bright to read when in a dark environment. (When I don't forget, I visit https://darkhn.herokuapp.com/ instead.)
- Ask HN: Do you think Hacker News is missing any features?
- Ask HN: Why does HN not have a dark mode?
-
Why HN team is not focusing on site UI?
It works quite well utilizing KISS principle; if you want dark mode then there's https://darkhn.herokuapp.com and https://hckrnews.com if you want to see dead submissions.
Not everything has to look like reddit, instagram or imgur, pinterest. The minimal site interface allowed me to browse it on an older iPad once while I couldn't access sites and content of above mentioned.
- PSA: Add dark mode to your sites, or at least let the browsers do it for you

Show HN: DarkHN – Dark Mode Mirror for Hacker News
Thank you all for the feedback and support for DarkHN. I'll be working on fixing some of the bugs on the application (unexpected 403 errors, low contrast, etc).
If you're interested in the code or would like to contribute, take a look at the GitHub repo: https://github.com/xtrp/darkhn
For those interested, it's written in Node.js with a simple Express.js server. More info is available on the repo.
Thank you all again for taking a look at this project!

Dark theme for Google maps
HelloI am working on implementing a dark theme for google maps using Stylish.Currently it works best with Firefox, when tested on Google Chrome there are problems when switching to satellite view etc.I would appreciate it if you would check and post in the comments under "Style" the errors you noticed (with the placement of the browser on which it occurred) and suggestions. Google Maps Dark Regards :)

I created a CSS script that declutters the new AE homepage and adds a dark mode [Details in comments]
I was initially gonna upload it as a userstyle, but unfortunately the edits I made in stylebot did not translate well as a userstyle. I will update the code if I make any new improvements to the site.

Chrome extension to customize websites
I found an extension called Stylish, but it only allows for style changes and can't perform the kinds of tasks I mentioned above.

Found a good reddit alt but the design is ugly? There just might be a fix.
If you head over to https://userstyles.org and install the browser extension (also available in the chrome and firefox extension stores), you can search various premade themes and do a one click apply to install a theme that makes just about any website look how you want.

how to move tooltip boxes out from under mouse pointer arrows
Another tooltip CSS code block worth investigating in this Superuser thread: https://superuser.com/questions/1266967/how-can-i-increase-tooltip-size-in-firefox-57...although can't find original source on userstyles.org any longer... only a few Firefox tooltip userstyles posted there now, mostly ancient!
