lightweight non-split keyboard --- 2 * (3*6+2 keys + 4 thumb keys)
Check out the choctopus44. Though it doesn't have the two keys underneath the regular rows, and I think is still undergoing development (but if you do find out how to get a choctopus44 PCB, please let me know!).

Any advice for this potential physical layout?
It looks just fine to me. If you're not set on designing yourself, you may want to check out the choctopus44. Of course, if you're okay with less pinky stagger, then the reviung39 has basically the exact layout that you're proposing.
What are some alternatives?
waffling60 - Multi layout 60% PCB with support for common ANSI and ISO layouts and split space. SE-version is for use in Polaris, DB-version for use in Bakeneko/Kei.
miryoku - Miryoku is an ergonomic, minimal, orthogonal, and universal keyboard layout.
The_Uni - A uni-board split ortholinear made for stenography. Uses QMK Firmware's Gemini Protocol. This is the pro micro version (aka Uni v2)
crkbd - Corne keyboard, a split keyboard with 3x6 column staggered keys and 3 thumb keys.
arisutea-pcb-stm32 - PCB design files for Arisutea STM32 Keyboard
nice60 - Pro Micro Powered, Hotswap 60% Keyboard
keyboards - @tzarc's custom keyboard designs.
zmk-brokenflows - My keyboard configs and keymaps
Lotus-Keyboard - A split ergo linear keyboard derived from the Lily58 family
Seismos - A split keyboard that evolves the concept of the Zebra keyboard, but fancier
ShortcutMapper - A visual keyboard shortcuts explorer for popular applications.
