Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

There is also Edwina, but I don't know how well it works. It is on my list to try, but I never had time yet. System crafters made a tutorial about it, so you might wish to watch it. I actually just saw the title on the video, and left it on my todo list to try, have to watch the video and try Edwina myself :).
